September 19, 1963, at Morgan State College (now Morgan State University), 12 students founded what is now the nation’s fifth largest, predominately African-American social service fraternity:

Iota Phi Theta Fraternity, Incorporated®

The founders of Iota Phi Theta were: Albert Hicks, Lonnie Spruill, Jr., Charles Briscoe, Frank Coakley, John Slade, Barron Willis, Webster Lewis, Charles Brown, Louis Hudnell, Charles Gregory, Elias Dorsey, Jr., and Michael Williams.

In 1990, Chi Omega; the Philadelphia Alumni Chapter of Iota Phi Theta Fraternity, Inc. was chartered. Iota men of Chi Omega were committed brothers who constantly demonstrated professionalism as they actively sought to improve the social and environmental conditions in the City of Philadelphia and surrounding areas.

For over 30 years, the men of the Chi Omega Chapter have continued to reach for the "STARS" and uphold the principles of the 12 founding fathers. Chi Omega has been the cornerstone of recent urban development, mental, spiritual and physical health initiatives and strategic awareness in the City of Philadelphia.

We are active with our neighbors and provide "Brotherly Love" daily to those in need. We are directly affected by our community in which most live in low income or impoverished settings. We believe it is our duty as Lawyers, Doctors, Sports Figures, and Role Models to make sure that our community is AWARE of the ways and accessibility to a better tomorrow.

It is extremely important that we do our part in empowering those around us and to be of aide to those individuals needing, spiritual and emotional guidance.
